 CIO Changes – July 2009  – August 11, 2009

 

·         Tom Werer, Norfolk Southern CIO has been elected Chairman of the Board at RailInc.

·         University of Tennesse Medical Center recently promoted Buddy Fain to Chief Information Officer. View the press release here: UTMC CIO

·         Sue Erickson has been named Chief Technology Officer & SVP of IT at NY Life. Erickson will report to NY Life CIO Eileen Slevin. View the press release here: NY Life CTO

·         Former Wal-Mart CIO, Linda Dillman, joins HP as Senior Vice President of Global IT. Dillman will head the IT outsourcing team and report to HP CIO Randy Mott. View the official press release here: Linda Dillman HP

·         Hartford Financial announced that Robert Ingram has been named SVP and Chief Information Officer of their Property & Casualty Division.

·         Sparton Corporation recently announced that John Payton will head their IT department as the new Director of Corporate Information Technology.

·         Todd Park, co-founder and board director of Athenahealth, has been named Chief Technology Officer at HHS.

·         In Federal IT news two senior IT staff members have resigned. Melissa Hathaway, Acting Senior Director for Cyberspace for the National Security and Homeland Security Councils, announced her resignation which will take effect August 21st. Hathaway was the apparent choice for the National Cyber Advisor position reporting directly to the president.  Mischel Kwon, Director of Homeland Security’s Computer Emergency Readiness Team, announced that she will resign from his role at Homeland Security and join RSA’s Worldwide Professional Services unit as Vice President of Public Sector Security Solutions.

·         In other Fed IT news, Richard Spires has been appointed Chief Information Officer for the Department of Homeland Security.

·         Peter L. Levin was recently named Chief Technology Officer for the US Department of Veterans Affairs.

·         DynCorp International announced that Daniel Clifford will serve as Chief Information Officer.

·         Wyndham Hotels Group recently announced its appointment of Venky Rangachari as their new Chief Technology Officer.

·         GM is currently in the process of a massive executive level restructuring. Terry Kline will succeed Ralph Szygenda as Chief Information Officer at General Motors as part of the restructuring. View the press release here: GM Restructurring

·         Hilton Hotels recently appointed a new CIO. Robert Webb joins the company as the new Chief Information Officer.

 IT Outsourcing Contracts

 

·         OfficeMax recently selected the ParAccell Analytic Database to enhance their data warehouse environment. The selection comes after an intense competition among 12 major vendors. The ParAccel platform demonstrated more than 20x performance improvement over OfficeMax’s current data warehouse. View the full press release here: OfficeMax ParAccel

·         CIBER QuickWear lands a nine-month implementation contract with Boston Apparel.  The contract will include the roll out of CIBER QuickWear for SAP Apparel and footwear and SAP CRM.

·         IBM finalized several major contracts over the past month. Amtrak, American Express, and Dow Chemical Company all signed five-year IT Services agreements with IBM recently. IBM also recently announced a $97 mil agreement with global insurance/reinsurance leader the ACE Group.

·         The Center for Disease Control announced that it is in the final stages of requesting bids for its largest IT contract. The CDC Information Management Services contract is a Multiple-Award contract worth up to $2 billion over 10 years. Read the press release here: CDC IMS Contract

·         SAIC has been chosen to provide technical and management support services to the U.S. Army. The $55 mil contract has a three-year term during which SAIC will provide support to the U.S. Army CIO in areas such as IT, enterprise architecture, and portfolio management. SAIC also announced winning a five-year contract with the Space and Naval Warfare Systems Center Atlantic worth $196 Million.

·         CSC has been selected to join a DoD pilot program to combat and mitigate threats to U.S. national Security.  CSC also signed a $115 Million ITO agreement with health care giant Henry Ford Health System.

·         EDS, the HP outsourcing division, had a major win this month. The State of Tennessee awarded EDS a $170 Million contract to manage the Medicaid System. This announcement comes after EDS recently inked a five-year ITO deal with American Express.  Under the terms of the agreement EDS will provide on-site tech support for 60,000 employees in over 130 countries.

·         Starbucks recently chose Unisys for Data Center outsourcing services in China. They signed a two year agreement in which Unisys will use global ITIL delivery framework to standardize and simplify IT management for the coffee giant.
